Summer Assignments 2012-2013 (due at camp)

Student Government Summer Assignments 2012-2013

*Due Date: Student Government Camp (or emailed to Baker @ cassidyb@provo.edu)   

**Note: DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. We will be checking up on everyone at the end of June as well as the end of July. Be ready.

Student Body President:
    • Become familiar with how to use a google doc (for the daily agenda)
    • Help Social VP in any needs for Homecoming
    • Help plan summer camp
    • Brainstorm ways to build school unity
    • Make list of themes for 2012-2013 school year (school and stud gov)
    • Monthly Sub-themes
    • Heads of Clubs Committee (Start after club week)
    • Help Student Body Secretary with Fundraising committee
    • Start planning the ultimate canned-food drive
      • Invite other schools
      • Contact Food Bank
      • 5K Planning
      • Meet with committee
Executive Vice President:
    • Look over reports of past Culture Week
    • Meet with Cultural Liaison
    • Be familiar with how to use google docs
    • Help plan summer camp
    • Help Public Relations with Veteran’s Day
    • Look over reports of past Club Weeks
      • How can we get more students involved in extracurricular activities? (ie more clubs? How can we better advertise so students know about possible clubs they could join?)
Student Body Secretary:
    • Become familiar with class blog (know how to use the blog, post…etc)
    • Know how to use google docs
    • Train the other secretaries on the blog
    • Start a google doc for a class agenda
    • Make a class seating chart
    • Acquire new binder for activity reports
    • Make sure 2012 Student Gov Info Sheet is updated and correct
    • Help plan summer camp
    • Head of Fundraising Committee
      • Contact Fundraising Committee
      • Brainstorm ideas and examine logistics of the following:
        • Creative fundraising methods for Sub-4-Santa
        • Valentine’s Day/February Fundraiser
        • Washington DC Fundraisers
        • Fundraising for Service Projects (ie working with businesses)

Social VP:
    • Homecoming:
    • Work with Committee to:
      • Plan 3 themes for Homecoming (research, survey for ideas)
      • Plan Spirit Days (research, survey for ideas)
      • Start a facebook group?
      • Contact DJ & Photographer for dances
      • Divide student government up into committees (dance, assembly, spirit week, advertising...etc)
      • Have at least 2 meetings throughout the summer with your homecoming committees BEFORE camp (once school starts, it is too late to meet with your committee)

Public Relations:
    • Brainstorm a list of contacts and ideas for the Veteran’s Day Assembly
      • Contact Freedom Festival after 4th of July
    • Look over past Veteran’s Day Assemblies and become familiar with the layout of the program, how to invite...etc
    • Make a temporary outline for the Veteran’s Day Assembly (names and exact details don’t need to be on the outline yet)
    • Make a list of ideas to better gain interests of students while preserving respect for veterans
    • Contact Student Body VP for assistance
Cultural Liaison:
    • Brainstorm a list of ideas about Culture Week
    • Meet with Student Body VP to discuss ways to reach out to different groups
    • Look over past reports of Culture Week
    • Begin planning club week
    • Canned-food drive committee
Tech Representative:
    • Contact Mr. Allred and introduce yourself as the new tech rep
    • Make a list of technology we can use
    • Learn how to use the sound system, lighting...etc
    • Start putting together song playlists we can use at activities (assemblies, pep rallies, etc)
    • Canned-food drive committee
Art Specialist
    • Design Student Gov Attire (2 T-shirts and 1 hoodie)
    • Get the sizes of all student government members t-shirts
    • Collect $5 from each student for t-shirts
    • Contact “Catch the Spirit” t-shirt design and put in order (talk to Baker first)
    • Orders need to be in 2 weeks prior to the first day of school
    • Help on the Homecoming Committee   
Video Coordinators:
    • Welcome Back Video for the first week of school (include Homecoming announcements, sports...etc)- remember to include as many students (variety) as possibly
    • Become familiar with all the technology you will be using
    • Make introduction to your videos
    • Canned-food drive committee
Head Cheerleader:
    • Head of First Assembly (Homecoming)
    • Look over past assemblies and brainstorm what we can do to make our assemblies more entertaining? (For example, in recent school surveys, many students mentioned they wanted the assemblies to be more like a Stars Assembly and less like a church program...so what can we do?)
    • Contact Freshman President about class cheer
